Community Mahi

Community mahi has been part of Oranga Ahurewa from the beginning.

Alongside our private practice, we continue to work within our communities to make care and wellbeing more accessible, contribute where there is need, and support kaupapa that strengthen community wellbeing.

Our community mahi takes different forms, from koha-based community clinics to wider hauora initiatives and collaborative kaupapa. As Oranga Ahurewa continues to develop, so too will the ways we contribute, connect and work alongside the communities we serve.

Supporting Community Wellbeing

Te Whare Ahurewa ō Io Matangaro was established by Ngarimu Raina in 2023 and is the foundation from which Oranga Ahurewa later developed.

Beginning on Coxhead Road in Manurewa, the whare has provided community mahi from Manurewa Library, Takaanini Community Hub and Tupu Youth Library in Ōtara.

Today, Te Whare Ahurewa ō Io Matangaro continues its community mahi from Takaanini Community Hub, providing a monthly koha-based clinic and supporting greater access to care and wellbeing across South Auckland.
